KiCad:Unlocked is new and launching today, it goes into all the corners and the tricks I’ve accumulated, it packs a decade of using KiCad into one place, so you can optimize the capture and layout process, be an even more kick-ass circuit making machine and produce smashing schematics and beautiful boards. Get it FREE if you want, no strings. Read on and grab that community code for $0 access.
My first public post about KiCad was back in 2016:
(the post migrated to this site, since, but the above links to the wayback machine for authenticity purposes :) )
A lot has changed since then with KiCad, but that’s only helped me to love designing circuits and boards with it even more.
I want to see more people getting more out of KiCad, to make more cool stuff, so I made this course beginner-friendly but targeted to those who want to be maximally effective and leverage all the tools. That means there’s a whole lot in there:
The course covers everything from from git to gerber, through design and DRC. Using a combination of
- full design walk-through, from A-Z, split into manageable chunks focused on specific topics
- Tips, techniques and resources to smooth and speed design and layout; and
- Deep dives and explorations of all the corners of KiCad, along with some of my more general electronics tips and advice
There are resources, downloadable materials and cheatsheets, but mostly it’s like taking a class with me as the virtual instructor, because there is a ton of video supporting the walk-throughs.
Want to try it out?
If you want to give KiCad a go, or get really go at all the aspects of the software, then you should.

Making the course took a mountain of effort and if you can and wish to support it, and is nominally $400 for the full self-directed course. I’ll gratefully accept payment which will support further developments on it and like it. Otherwise, if you can’t afford that, I still want you to benefit from all of KiCad’s power… All you need do is :
- 1. Hang on to this community code for use during registration: inductivekicad7108
- 2. Head to the KiCad:Unlocked Course page
and
- 3. Select the self-directed course, at the bottom of the page.
That’s it!
I’d love to hear some feedback and for you to share your progress and/or this page with someone you think would benefit.
